Not all drugs are banned in sport.
However, athletes must be careful when they choose the medication. It is the athletes‘ obligation not to use the prohibited substances, and athletes should take responsibility for all the results from what they ingest and use according to the WADA CODE.

Hospital Treatments

  • Athletes should notify that they are subject to testing in sport. As the staff in the hospital may not be experts in the anti-doping area, athletes must check the prescription themselves.
  • The list of prohibited substances is yearly updated and revised if necessary. It is recommended for athletes to double-check before using the substance.

Non-prescription Medications

A non-prescription medicine (commonly referred to as “over-the-counter”) might include prohibited substances. It is highly recommended that athletes consult with a pharmacist and double-check whether the medicine contains prohibited substances.
